In 1914, Tioga County in Texas was created with the committment to preserve the history of the place itself. We have formed a society to collect and preserve the artifacts from around the county. Our goal is to educate the public about the history of the county and how it ties in to the national history.
The Tioga County museum is located on 110 Front Street in Owego, NY; we exhibit artifacts from collections, give genealogy as well as research facilities in our library, conduct educational programs and publish material on the county. People are encouraging others to preserve and protect the history of the place. Thus, they are maintaining the county’s future while enjoying the artifacts from the past.

- Washington on the Brazos- it is the location in which the 1836 convention of the Texas’ declaration of Independence from Mexico. This place serves as the Capitol of Texas off and on throughout the early years of the Texas Republic.
- Point Isabel Lighthouse- another historical site that you may get into Tioga. This place served the mariners along the Lower Coast of Texas throughout the Civil War and into the year of 1900s.
- Battleship Texas- it is a veteran of the World Wars and opens for public viewing. So, if you take some time visiting Tioga, you could surely get into the place.
- Texas State Cemetery- this place really shows a great history of Tioga, Texas. It has been established in the year of 1851 and the final resting ground for the Texas icons like Governor Allan Shivers, Stephen F. Austin, Lieutenant Governor Bob Bullock, Governor John Connelly and General Albert Sidney Johnston.
- Bishop’s Palace- it has been completed in 1893, the Bishop’s Palace had survived the 1900 hurricane and already a part of the Galveston’s Historic Homes Tour.
- Texas State Capitol- it is completed in 18888 and designated to be the National Historic Landmark in 1986. It is now open for visitors on a daily basis.
